What kinetic tow rope do you need for a Suzuki Jimny

suzuki jimmy on a muddy road in the woods

A Suzuki Jimny is a compact 4×4 that will do just fine off road.

With the right tools, you can rescue yourself or get rescued if you should get stuck.

But then which tow rope is the right one?

Of course, we look at the weight of the car and it is rounded 1100 kg.

But to determine the right tow rope, we look at the entire weight of the car.

So we count the driver as well as everything else in the car.

Furthermore, we also look at the situation you will find yourself in.

Determining the type of recovery

If you want to do light recovery, that is, if you get stuck in a mud field once, then a 16 mm kinetic tow rope is the right choice.

This has a breaking force of 4000 kg, so 3 to 4 times the weight of the car (depending on what you have on or in it)

If you want a rope that can let you pull loose even from the toughest conditions, then get a tow rope 18 mm thick.

You then have a breaking force of 6000 kg. So 6 tons and about 5 to 6 times the weight of the car.

The length of the rope

The length of the rope is determined by how close you think you can get to your car in the event of being stuck.

Standard lengths are 6, 9, 12 and 15 meters.

The most commonly chosen lengths are 9 and 12 meters.

Now that you know what the thickness and length of the tow rope should be, do you have everything?

Prevent damage with a power divider

A power divider attaches to both tow eyes of your Jimny. This distributes the force to the towing eyes.

This reduces the chance of breaking the eyes, but also distributes the force on unloading over the chassis.

This way you can prevent the chassis from being skewed when large forces are applied to 1 towing eye.

For the Jimmy, choose 12 mm for light recovery and 14 mm for heavy recovery.
